Lechia Gdansk are in their best form of the season ahead of Sunday's derby clash with local rivals Arka Gdynia. The I Liga matchday 11 fixture will be played on October 18 at 20:30 at the Polsat Plus Arena. The team currently sits sixth in the table with 16 points from ten games, recording five wins, one draw and four losses.
This run has propelled Lechia to sixth place in the table, where they have 16 points from ten matches. They trail leaders Pogoń Grodzisk Mazowiecki by five points. Across the season, Lechia have scored 19 goals and conceded 16, giving them a +3 goal difference.
Form ahead of the derby
The recent 2-1 victory over Stal Rzeszów on October 12 was typical of Lechia's current efficiency. Blanuta scored in the 36th minute and Beskorovaynyi in the 40th, with the team controlling the game comfortably. In the previous match against Ruch Chorzów, a 3-1 win on October 3, they were 2-0 up by the sixth minute thanks to goals from Michał Głogowski and Jakub Adkonis. Seizing the initiative early has become a hallmark of the side during this period. In their last five league matches, Lechia have recorded four wins and one loss, currently on a four-game winning run.
Arka Gdynia arrive in Gdańsk in poorer form. The Gdynia-based side sit 16th in the table and lost their last league match 1-2 at home to Polonia Warszawa. Previously, Arka also lost 1-2 to Pogoń Siedlce, while beating IFK Göteborg 3-2 in a friendly. The last meeting between these teams, played on February 27 this year, ended in a 2-2 draw.
Lechia's squad appears settled. In the win over Stal Rzeszów, the starting lineup included goalkeeper Adrian Holewiński, defenders Lopata and Kopasek, and forward Shakh. Ahead of the derby, Lechia are not reporting any major squad issues.
A victory on Sunday would allow Lechia not only to extend their impressive streak but also to close in on the top of the table. For Arka Gdynia, the match is a chance to break a poor run and gain valuable points in their fight against relegation.
