Squad changes and challenges

Lechia Gdańsk started the season with a large number of juniors, making it difficult to achieve stable form. In recent weeks, coach Władysław Łupaszko has noted improvement, but he stresses that the situation is still uncomfortable. "We now have a combination of quality and intensity. We must train with high intensity, but if there is no quality, it will be a problem. Likewise, if there is intensity but no quality, it will also be bad," Łupaszko said.

New signings and missing talents

Three new players have joined Lechia: Axel Holewiński, Danyło Beskorowajnyj, and Kevin Dodaj. Among them, 27‑year‑old defender Danyło Beskorowajnyj is expected to strengthen the centre‑back line. In recent matches, the centre‑back position was filled by juniors Wojciech Madej and Antoni Ziółkowski. Beskorowajnyj is ready to play, although not at 100 %, and the club is helping him. "I think the fans will see him on the pitch in the match against Pogoń," Łupaszko added.

However, key players are still missing. Indrit Mavraj and Karl Wendt are sidelined due to injuries. Additionally, players who wish to leave or are earmarked for sale include Tomas Bobcek, Iwan Żelizko, Rifet Kapić, and Bohdan Wjunnyk. Wjunnyk was set to move to Korona Kielce, with which Lechia had reached an agreement, but the deal fell through and he is still searching for a club.

Strengthening defence and attack

In defence, besides Beskorowajnyj, coach Łupaszko sees the need for further reinforcement. In attack, the situation is even worse: Michał Głogowski and Bakary Sonko are underperforming, and Dorian Sinkiewicz will return to play. "If forwards do not score goals in training, they will not score in matches either," Łupaszko stresses. The coach is working on finishing and effectiveness to increase goal output.

Upcoming match against Pogoń Siedlce

Lechia’s match against Pogoń will start on Friday, 21 August 2026, at 20:30. The broadcast will be available on TVP Sport. Coach Łupaszko plans to use both new players and young talents to secure the first win of the season.
