Lechia Gdansk has completed the signing of Colombian winger Javier Mena. The 20-year-old has put pen to paper on a long-term contract with the I Liga club, valid until June 30, 2031.
Javier Mena is a Colombian youth international for whom Lechia will be his first European club. For the team currently sitting 15th in the I Liga table with seven points from seven matches, this is an investment in the future. The club has scored eight and conceded 13 goals this season, trailing league leaders Pogon Grod. Mazowiecki by eight points.
Javier Mena is a 20-year-old winger. Until now, he has played only in Colombia, making Lechia Gdansk his first European club. On social media, he was described as a 'real beast'. His signature was secured by, among others, Paolo Urfer and other club decision-makers.
Mena joins Lechia just as his older brother, Camilo, has departed the club. The latter's contract expired at the end of the summer transfer window. Camilo Mena made 56 Ekstraklasa appearances over two seasons, scoring 9 goals and providing 18 assists. After Lechia's relegation, he scored once in six matches and recorded four assists in his last six games.
The older brother, who remains in Gdansk and is linked with various clubs including a potential return to his home country, commented on his younger brother's move. "He is a very fast player, we are a bit similar, but he is much better than me," said Camilo Mena. He also posted an online greeting: "Welcome to your new home."
The new player is set to join Lechia Gdansk's reserve team. This is a conscious decision by the coaching staff to allow the young Colombian to adapt to his new surroundings. The club hopes his development will translate to results for the first team in the future.
The current Lechia squad, where Mena will seek his opportunity, can be viewed on our squad page. The team is preparing for an important derby clash. The next test in the I Liga will be a match against Arka Gdynia scheduled for October 17, 2026. The opponent currently sits 5th in the table, and the game will be played at Lechia's stadium. The full schedule of upcoming fixtures is available in our fixtures section.
Prior to signing Mena, Lechia Gdansk has been in mixed form, reflected in a recent run of LWWLD. The club faces the difficult task of improving its league position, especially with a negative goal difference of -5. The current standings of all teams in I Liga are shown in our standings section.
Javier Mena signed a contract with Lechia Gdansk that will run for the next five seasons. This long-term commitment from the club demonstrates a strategy built around a young, promising squad. His debut in the white and green stripes will be one of the most anticipated moments of the coming weeks.
